About Us
Since its inception in November 2005 The Terrace Restaurant, situated in Northvilla, between Benoni and Kempton Park has aimed to provide its guests with a unique dining experience in an area previously lacking inspired operations. Owner operator Bruce Hains, who, before travelling extensively, grew up locally, is clearly passionate about food, wine and décor and his enthusiasm is carried forward by a friendly well trained staff. Assisted by James Bell the restaurants ethos of providing honest food cooked to order with passion and delivered with a smile is not ground breaking but sadly lacking in this day and age. Testament to this commitment is the restaurants large “regular” trade and ever increasing popularity.
Inspiration
The loosely contemporary menu is an eclectic mix of dishes that have been inspired by Bruce and James’ travels and extensive experience overseas. The menu leans towards Mediterranean and the use of the pizza oven to slow roast and bake goes back to Tuscany of old, but dishes such as curries and home made pies provide an interesting and tempting array. The quality of fresh local and imported ingredients and attention to detail is evident in truly tasty food. The menu changes according to season and an equal amount of passion is put into the wine list which features lots of lesser known wine farms, most of which have hosted wine tasting evenings in the cellar. The Terrace also runs a wine club which keeps its members informed of upcoming wine evenings and news and since staring 2 months ago has over 100 members.
The Terrace Restaurant occupies the whole of the first and second floor of Northvilla Terrace shopping centre and has ample secure parking. Upon taking the lift to the first floor and entering the restaurant guests will notice the uncluttered décor, fresh flowers, and on warm days the large open windows or in winter the roaring fires. The open kitchen allows the diner to see their food being prepared and fills the restaurant with delicious aromas. Adjacent to the main restaurant is the bar which is also the smoking section. Leading from there is the wine cellar which cleverly doubles as beautiful private dining room seating 28. On the second floor is a large roof terrace open on summer days and looking across onto a tranquil dam.
